Golden baked puff-pastry parcels stuffed with spiced meat and onion — Uzbekistan's favorite snack straight from the oven.

Ingredients (for 2)
- Puff pastry, 1 sheet (about 320 g)
- Minced lamb or beef, 250 g
- Onion, 1 large, finely chopped
- Ground cumin, 1 tsp
- Black pepper, ½ tsp
- Egg yolk, 1, beaten
- Sesame or nigella seeds, 1 tsp
Steps
- Heat the oven to 200°C and line a tray.
- Mix the meat, onion, cumin, pepper and salt.
- Cut the pastry into 8 squares, put filling in the center and fold the corners in to make neat parcels, seam side down.
- Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with seeds.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until puffed and deep golden.
Cook it together: One mixes the filling, the other cuts the pastry — then fold the parcels together and race to make the neatest one.
