Ingredients (for 2)
- Flour, 250 g
- Butter, 40 g, cold
- Egg, 1
- Sugar, 1 tsp
- Salt, ½ tsp
- Cold water, about 60 ml
- Firm white cheese (queso blanco or halloumi), 250 g
- Oil, for frying
Steps
- Rub the butter into the flour, sugar and salt, then mix in the egg and enough water to make a smooth dough; rest for 15 minutes.
- Cut the cheese into sticks about 1 cm thick and 8 cm long.
- Roll the dough thin and cut into long 2 cm-wide strips.
- Wrap each cheese stick in a spiral with a strip of dough, sealing the ends well.
- Fry at 175°C until golden, about 3 minutes, and serve with a garlic or guasacaca dip.
Cook it together: One cuts the cheese sticks, the other rolls the dough — wrapping them in spirals is oddly relaxing done together.
