Ingredients (for 2)
- Water, 500 ml
- Lightly roasted Arabic coffee, 2 tbsp
- Cardamom pods, 1 tbsp, lightly crushed
- Saffron, a pinch
- Cloves, 2 (optional)
- Rose water, a few drops (optional)
- Dates, a small bowl
Steps
- Bring the water to a boil, add the coffee and simmer gently for 10 minutes.
- Take it off the heat for a minute to let the grounds settle.
- Put the cardamom, saffron and cloves in a thermos or coffee pot and strain the coffee over them.
- Let it steep for 3–5 minutes and add a few drops of rose water if you like.
- Pour a few sips into small cups and serve with dates — sip, eat a date, repeat.
Cook it together: One brews the coffee, the other arranges the dates — then take turns pouring for each other, as hosts do.
