Iraqi Cardamom Tea
Strong, sweet black tea scented with cardamom, served in small glasses — the drink at the heart of every Iraqi gathering.

Ingredients (for 2)
- Loose black tea (Ceylon), 2 tbsp
- Water, 600 ml
- Cardamom pods, 4, lightly crushed
- Sugar, to taste
- Dried rose petals or a cinnamon stick (optional)
Steps
- Bring the water to a boil in a kettle.
- Put the tea and cardamom in a small teapot, pour over 400 ml of the hot water and set it on a very low heat.
- Let it steep gently for 10–15 minutes without boiling, until dark and fragrant.
- Pour a little into small glasses, top up with hot water to your preferred strength and add sugar.
- Serve with dates or biscuits.
